Oct 20 The Foundation held a private function at the ROM to view The
Warrior Emperor and China’s Terracotta Army Exhibition. The function is presented by RBC Royal Bank. Other sponsors included the Middlefield Group, Davis LLP, Harris & Chong LLP, the Justin Poy Agency, and Tour East Holidays. It included a lecture by Dr. Shen Chen, Senior ROM Curator and a Director of the Foundation, a guided tour, food and bar service, and a lucky draw.

September The Foundation met with officials of the Shanghai Museum in Shanghai to discuss opportunities for future cooperation in connection with the
development of an International Scholarship Fund for the Exchange of Professionals, Knowledge, and Skills to preserve Chinese Cultural Relics.
June 24 Sonja Chong, Chair of the Foundation, was invited to attend the State Luncheon at Rideau Hall hosted by Governor General Michaelle Jean for President Hu Jingtao prior to His Excellency’s attendance at the G-20 Summit in Toronto.

Governor General Michaelle Jean is the Honorary Patron of the Foundation.
Apr 2 Dr. T. T. Tsui, the Honorary Chair of the Foundation, passed
away in Beijing. Dr. Tsui was a successful businessman, and a philanthropist of international repute in Chinese arts and culture.

The Foundation paid due respect to Dr. Tsui’s invaluable contribution to the
Foundation, particularly in its formative years.
February In the early part of 2010, Sonja Chong, Chair of the Foundation, was invited to be a member of the Advisory Committee of the Royal Ontario Museum in connection with ROM’s exhibition of The Warrior Emperor and China’s Terracotta Army.

She was also invited to be a member of the Toronto Zoo’s Giant Panda Acquisition Task Force.
2009  
Oct 16 On October 16, 2009, the Foundation held a fund-raising Gala to celebrate its 15th Anniversary. A special video was produced along with a Commemorative Program Book with greetings from senior government officials from Canada and China, including a special greeting from China’s State Administration of Cultural Heritage.

As in the past, the Gala was attended by various levels of Canadian government representatives, and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Canada, His Excellency Lan Lijun.
June 15 The Foundation was invited to contribute towards the Virtual Museum of Asian Canadian Cultural Heritage (“VM”) which launch in June, 2009 was presided by her Honorable Vivienne Poy.

The VM is put together by the Canadian Foundation for Asian Culture (Central Ontario) Inc. showcasing contemporary Asian Canadian cultural expression, with funding from Canadian Heritage Gateway Fund. The project is part of the Federal government's Canadian Culture Online.

Nov 12 PRC Ministry of Culture – Dinner hosted for the 23 delegates from the Ministry from a total of 16 provinces, with their provincial counterparts.      
Oct 11-22 China World Heritage Cultural Tour - a group of Directors and Supporters of the Foundation visited Yunnan/World Heritage sites, including South China Karst in Yunnan, The Old Town of Lijiang and Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas. The tour lasted 12 days.

July 8 Meeting with Mr. Tan Xiaolin, Secretary General of Jiangxi Provincial Government, The UNESCO China Heritage Committee and Ms. Zhu of The PRC Consulate in Toronto.  Announcement of Fujian Tulou and Mount Sanqingshan National Park being successfully named UNESCO’s World Heritage Site.
June 25 Donation for Sichuan Earthquake completed. Chairs and Directors delivered the balance of $4,020 to the PRC Consulate.
June 10 On June 9, Dr. Angela Sheng represented the Foundation by presenting on the preservation of the Forbidden City or the Great Wall, in the Second Annual Symposium of Centennial Collage of Cultural and Heritage Institute.
May 23 A cheque for $59,300 was presented to the PRC Consulate as contribution towards humanitarian aid in connection with the Sichuan earthquake.

Top 50 winners’ of 2008 Photo Contest were exhibited on May 4th at Holiday Inn Select Mississauga in support to Family with Chinese Children.

May 11 - Oct 28 Treasures from China" was in cooperation with The Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC), which holds the exhibition from May to October 2007.  This exhibition was a joint partnership between the CMC and the National Museum of China.  This exhibition showed some of the finest artefacts of human civilization, illuminating the rich history and achievements of the Chinese people.
September 28 2007-2008 China World Heritage Photo Contest Press Conference
August 4-15 China World Heritage Cultural Tour - a group of directors and supporters of the Foundation went to visit the World Heritage sites in Jilin, Liaoning and Shandong Provinces, including Imperial Palace, Zhaoling Tombs, Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom, Mount Taishan, Temple and Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion in Qufu. The tour lasted 12 days.
July 20 "China World Heritage Sites" presentation was held at Studio Theatre at Harbourfront Centre's York Quay Centre. A 45-minutes lecture includes a background introduction on Chinese history and culture, as well as an introduction of all the 30+ heritage sites in China. Over 200 people attended.
April 14 2007 An Evening with Chinese Treasures - Pingyao in Rhapsody: auction and dinner at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, with charity auction conducted by Christie's. Sponsors and supporters of 600 people attended the event.
April 14 "Antique Wooden Stands of 17th -20th Century" exhibition was held in the constitution Hall of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre at the day of the Gala. This was the first exhibition ever in the World of this genre of art.

January & February China World Heritage Photo Contest Exhibition: exhibitions of the selected entries took place in January and February of 2007 at various venues in the Greater Toronto Area, including: Harbourfront Centre, Oriental Centre, New Kennedy Square, Scarborough Town Centre and Canadian National Exhibition.  Thousands of viewers attended the exhibitions.

China World Heritage Photo Contest's judging of entries took place.  Over 300 entries were submitted.  50 best photos were selected by the judging panel.

November 26 "Collecting Chinese Art" symposium, co-organized by the Foundation and the Royal Ontario Museum was held at the ROM's Eaton Theatre.  Some of the most interesting and intriguing aspects of Chinese art collecting were explored.  Speakers of the symposium included Dr. Ka Bo Tsang, Assistant Curator, Chinese Pictorial Arts & Textiles of the Royal Ontario Museum Chinese Collection, Professor Emeritus Dennis Duffy of Victoria University at the University of Toronto, Mr. Jack Howard, a ROM librarian in the H. H. Mu Far Eastern Library, and Ms. Bonnie Czegledi, Barrister and Solicitor of international art and cultural heritage law, and Director of the Institute of Art and Cultural Heritage.

China World Heritage Cultural Tour - a group of directors and supporters of the Foundation went to visit the World Heritage sites in Shanxi and Henan Province, including Yungang Grottoes, Longmen Grottoes and Pingyao Ancient City. The tour lasted 10 days.

2006 An Evening with Chinese Treasures - Along the Yangtze River: auction and dinner at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, with charity auction conducted by Christie's.  Sponsors and supporters of 800 people attended the event.

An Evening with Chinese Treasures - Along the Yangtze River Auction Preview: held at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel in Richmond Hill.  16 pieces of exquisite Chinese works of art were displayed for viewing.  In addition, a number of old jadeite jewellery items were showcased and were for charity sale.  

January & February

China World Heritage Photo Contest: Hundreds of entries were submitted for the competition.  Participating entries were from many parts of the world, including China, Hong Kong, the United States, and across Canada.  50 selected entries were exhibited at various locations in the Greater Toronto Area.

2005

China World Heritage Cultural Tour - a group of directors and supporters of the Foundation went to visit the Yangtze River and the famous world heritage sites of Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong and Leshan Giant Buddha, for a thirteen-day tour.

"DIM SUM - Sampling Contemporary Chinese Culture" - the first Chinese Cultural event organized by Harbourfront Centre and a co-hosted by the Foundation.

2005 An Evening with Chinese Treasures - "The Silk Road" auction and dinner at LeParc Conference and Banquet Centre, with a charity auction conducted by Christie's.

Silk Road Photo Contest Press Reception, held at Sheraton Parkway Hotel in Richmond Hill.

Silk Road Photo Contest. Exhibitions of selected entries were exhibited at various locations in the Greater Toronto Area. The exhibitions received huge attention from viewers at all locations.

Silk Road Cultural Tour - a group of directors and supporters of the Foundation went to the ancient trade route - the Silk Road, for a ten-day tour. The tour was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture in China.

2004 An Evening with Chinese Treasures - The Charm of Archaic Jade auction and dinner at Metro Toronto Convention Centre, with a charity auction conducted by Christie's.

April 3 & 4

The Charm of Archaic Jade Previews at the Hilton Suites in Markham. A number of old jade pieces, some dating back to Han Dynasty (200 A.D.), include Jade Cup with Dragon Pattern, White Jade Miniature Mountain with Figures, White Jade Disc (Bi) with Dragon Pattern, Jade Scabbard Slide, Jade Thumb Rings, Jade Column (Cong), Jade Cicada, etc. were displayed.

February 7

In cooperation with the Royal Ontario Museum, the Foundation held a symposium "China in the New ROM" at the ROM Theatre. At this symposium, several curators from the ROM, including Klaas Ruitenbeek, Chen Shen, Patty Proctor and Sara Irwin, presented their plans for the new China galleries, which will open in December 2005. The event was well received with close to 300 attendees.

October

On October 15, 2001, a 3D Laser Scanner was presented to the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, China for use in the preservation of treasures in the Three Gorges Area in the presence of Hon. Dan Hays, Speaker of the Senate of Canada, Hon. Wang Guangying, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee Ambassador to China and Mr. Guo Shuyan, Vice-Chair of State Council Three Gorges Commission.

An expert team from Innovision 3D Inc., an industrial partner of NRC, conducted on-site work at Zhang Fei Temple, a reowned heritage site in the Three Gorges Area as well as training of Chinese personnel to master the technology. Foundation delegates visited various heritage sites in the Three Gorges Area and engaged in enriching discussions with Chinese specialists and personnel.

Pre-departure technology demonstration at the National Reasearch Council of Canada (NRC) in Ottawa, followed by a dinner hosted by GE Canada for the Foundation Delegation going to China to present 3D Laser Scanner developed by NRC.

September 28 - January 7, 2001 Jade Exhibition at Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria, BC.
September Jade, the Ultimate Treasure of Ancient China came to Canada. The Foundation has co-organized the Exhibition with China's Cultural Relics Coordination Centre, partnering with leading museums and galleries, Canadian Conservation Institute and Centre for Exhibition Exchange, and supported by Canadian Heritage's Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Program. The exhibition will tour five provinces, and seven cities across Canada.
April Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada accepted the invitation to be a Foundation Patron.
1999
September 11-12 Foundation Chair and experts from the NRC licensee, Innovation, went to China for the 3D Laser Scanner Pilot Project on-site in the Three Gorges Area.
September 10 Foundation announcement of a Pilot Project to introduce National Research Council of Canada (NRC) developed 3D Laser Scanning Technology to China for cultural heritage preservation application. Mr. Robert Gillespie, Chair and CEO of GE Canada hosted the announcement luncheon for the Foundation. Mr. Arthur Carty, President of the National Research Council of Canada gave a keynote speech at the luncheon.
May 4 Announcement of the Chinese Painting Conservation Project at the Royal Ontario Museum in the presence of the Hon. Isabel Bassett, Ontario Minister of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation, and Mr. Zeng Xinmiao, Vice Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, China. Through Foundation efforts, Chinese paintings of the ROM will be restored with the collaborative assistance from the National Museum of Chinese History in Beijing.
May 1 - 6 Visit to Canada by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, China: the delegation from Beijing was led by Mr. Zheng Xinmiao, Vice Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
April 15 - 22 The Foundation's Announcement Display of six pieces of Chinese jade at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (part of a Chinese Jade Exhibition to be held) was honoured to have the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada and Honourable Zhu Rongji, Premier of China, to tour the display on April 15.
Janurary - March In partnership with Canadian Heritage Young Canada Works Programme, two Canadians were sent for international internship training at the National Museum of Chinese History in Beijing, China.
1998
November 19 Foundation Chair signed a Protocol of Canada-China Conservation Cooperation with the National Museum of Chinese History. Honourable Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Mr. Zhang Wenbin, Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, China witnessed the signing ceremony.
September 15 In the distinguished presence of the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada and Honourable Zhu Rongji, Premier of China, the Canada-China Protocol on Cultural Heritage Preservation was signed between Dr. Nelly Ng, Foundation Chair, and Mr. Zhang Wenbin, Director General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, China, at the Great Hall of People in Beijing, China. The Protocol has a special focus for the preservation of cultural treasures in the Three Gorges area.
1997
September - Feburary 98 Three city exhibition "Masterpieces of 20th Century Chinese Painting" took place in Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa. President Jian Zemin made his first public appearance in Canada at this exhibition opening in Vancouver. Prime Minister Jean Chrétien gave an encouraging address at the exhibition before the exhibition closed in the Capital Region of Canada.
March 2 "Roman Tam - Farewell to the Stage Charity Concert" in support of the Foundation.
1996
December 19 Opening of the China Canada Exhibition Hall, the first permanent hall bearing the name of Canada, in the National Museum of Chinese History, Beijing, China.
Feburary The commencement of the Preservation Personnel Exchange Program.
Feburary 21 Manulife in support of the Foundation acquired the painting donated to the Foundation by artist Paklee Ho. President of Manulife hosted a luncheon for this special occasion.
1995
December 19 Recipient of the proceeds from the Fundraising Event of the Sing Tao (Canada) Foundation Inaugural event.
December 19 Honourable Andre Ouellette, Minister of Foreign Affairs met with Foundation Co-Chairs in his Office. He spoke of the three tiers of Canadian diplomacy and applauded the efforts of the Foundation.
October 28 Recipient of the Toronto-Hong Kong Lions Club Annual Ball proceeds.
June 8 Hong Kong Gala organized by leading community members of Hong Kong with Dr. T.T. Tsui as Gala Honorary Chair.
1994
November Dr. Sally A.W. Sian, Chair of Sing Tao Newspaper, accepted the invitation to be Foundation Honorary Advisor.
November 18 The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien during his first official visit to China spoke of the Foundation in his address at the University of Beijing.
November 6 The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada received Foundation Co-Chairs and the State Bureau of Cultural Relics representatives at the historic location of Imperial Palace Garden during his visit to China.
September Foundation delegation visited China and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State Bureau of Cultural Relics, China.

Honourable Wang Guanying, Vice-Chair, National People's Congress of the People's Republic, Foundation Co-Patron received the Foundation delegation at the Great Hall of the People.
August 25 The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada met with Foundation Co-Chairs, Dr. Nelly Ng and Hon. Marin O'Connell in the Prime Minister's office and gave his support to the work of the Foundation.
March Mr. T.T. Tsui accepted the invitation to be Foundation Honorary Chair.
March 23 His Excellency, the Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn, Governor General of Canada, hosted a reception at the Rideau Hall for the Foundation on the occasion of receiving the special ancient Banshan jar, the gift of the Foundation for the people of Canada from the State Bureau of Cultural Relics.

This ancient 4,500 year old jar was transferred from the Rideau Hall to the Canadian Museum of Civilization for public display and enjoyment.
1993
November 19 Hounourable J.R. Jackman, Lieutenant General of Ontario hosted a reception in honour of the Foundation.

Roman Tam with the Toronto Symphony, fundraising concert-gala for the Foundation took place at the Roy Thomson Hall.

November 17 Official Announcement and Inaugural Reception of the Foundation.
November Director of the State Bureau of Cultural Relics of China, Mr. Zhang Deqin and his delegation accepted the Foundations' invitation to visit Canada.
